Oh Jim…I’m so sorry…(as I’m blubbering into my coffee here). I’m gonna put his last picture next to my other picture of him and Nikki on my refrigerator. You did the right thing although I know how hard it was for you. I had to do it with my old girl earlier this year and I’m facing it again with my old man, Alex..he’s a 17 yr old Husky but so far…no problems, knock on wood. But I know it’s just a matter of time. It’s so unfair how short their lifespan is…why can’t they live longer? Anyway…the irony in all of this is that I currently have a boarder that could be Dempsey’s twin sister. Her name is Winnie. She’s 13 yrs. old and I’m holding my breath that she makes it til her owners get back. She was in rough shape when they dropped her off but they looked like they needed some help dealing with the whole situation. So I told them we’ll love her to death “until they come back”. They w ere supposed to pick her last Friday…so far I haven’t heard from them. So I kinda feel like she’s mine right now. But every time I look into her eyes, I see Dempsey. She even has that goofy Dempsey bark. Well….Jim, I know the loss is HUGE but he’s in such a better place, running and fetching and playing with all the other doggies in heaven. He had a GREAT life with you . You can be sure he thinks the world of you cuz you were the BEST Daddy ever!!! My thoughts and prayers are with you and Nikki.

Sue Barre here. What a great life you and your friend Dempsey had together. He was a lucky dog. And you a lucky guy. There’s no measure of what our pets (kids) bring to our life. I think of that as I lift my girl Max into the car because she still wants to go. I call it driving Miss Maxie!!

It’s the part of life we hate the most. But the kindest most painful act we ever do. I feel your pain. I know how you loved your pets. They are family. Replacement is not possible. But there is another loving soul with liquid brown eyes waiting to be loved by you when you are ready.

you will focus instead on ALL THE GREAT TIMES you had with Your Boy: AND DONT OUR PETS KNOW IT. Unlike people, they appreciate all the REALLY GOOD THINGS & THE SIMPLE THINGS. I still feel bad that we took Wyle in for that operation, I should have let her just live out whatever little time she had. We lost her last year & even now I am in the Park & the tears well up. We love them THAT MUCH. The Good Thing is, THEY KNOW IT

it’s a hard decision, but the right one. dempsey doesn’t need to suffer, nor do you watching him get sicker. it’s tough to let go, but you did the right thing. lots of great memories. rock on dempsey.

Jim, you absolutely made the right decision. Dogs depend on us to do the best for them, and you did.

You have so many images and remembrances of a healthy Dempsey, and that is what is important. He lived a much longer and healthier life because of your care.

JAD- The the depth of your love for Dempsey shown brightly in the hardest of times when you had to let go of him. He was a very lucky pooch to have someone to care for him so tenderly and sincerely. Take special care of Nikki now as I’m sure she will miss him too.

Hi Jim. I am so sorry for your loss. I work with Maria, and met you a few times when you picked up your crew. Like Maria I have so many great memories of both Dempsey and Nikki while they were boarding. I am afraid I will be facing the same decision within the year. My lab/boxer SPCA special is having difficulty with his back legs, but so far is compensating…. Please give a hug to Nikki from her ‘Uncle JIM’

Jim – What a loving and incredible tribute to Dempsey! Thank you so much for sharing him with the world. What a gorgeous boy. I just loved the video of him, relaxing under a tree, surveying his domain. Hang in there…we’ve had to make the decision about our pets, too, and it hurts you so deeply inside, but Dempsey will always be in your heart. You have such special pictures, videos, and memories. He lived a wonderful life with you and touched many, many lives. He’s made a difference (and so have you), and he will never be forgotten.
